2017 Leadership Conference Night Out
Posted - Oct 18, 2017
2017 Leadership Conference – Region VI night out at Haufbraus House in Chicago.
Each year the ASSE Leadership Conference Committee hosts a charitable drive at the annual Leadership Conference in Illinois. During the welcome reception attendees will help assemble snack and clothing packages for homeless veterans attending the 2017 Chicago area Winter Stand Down.
The first Veteran Stand Down occurred in 1998 in San Diego, CA. This event brings together homeless vets in a single location to access community resources and supplies needed to begin addressing their individual problems and rebuilding their lives. It is estimated that this program reaches over 52,000 veterans each year.
The Jesse Brown VA Medical Center is the sponsor of the annual Chicago Winter Stand Down, which focuses on winter clothing and housing resources. This event services between 700-800 veterans from the Chicagoland area. They have requested specific items to help make their event a success (see list below). From now until the event we will be collecting supplies with a goal of creating 200 snack packages and 200 pairs of undergarments.
ASSE staff is actively participating in this drive and to show our support Region VI donated a $500 Amazon gift card to society to procure items for the drive. That equates to 81 t-shirts, 81 pairs of underwear, 174 granola bars, and 240 beef jerky sticks.
